The Benefits or Safflower Oil

Safflower oil is one of the many key ingredients and natural fat sources of Nirvana Life Nutrition’s “Pr” Protein. As the chief formulator of this product I understood the benefits of this essential fat and what it would even do to our taste profile.
Highly regarded as a great source of essential fatty acids, Safflower oil has many positives we can all benefit from. Mostly comprised from omega 6 fatty acids, it also contains a small amount of CLA (conjugated Linoleic acid). There are two types of Safflower oil; high-oleic and high-Linoleic. Like olive oil, the high-oleic variety of Safflower oil contains monounsaturated fats and is a good option for cooking at high temps. Since Safflower oil contains these fatty acids, it is one of the better sources for not only weight loss but for many overall health benefits.

Improved Blood Sugar Levels

A systematic review of studies from 2016 suggests that eating a diet high in unsaturated fats can improve blood glucose control. The study found that replacing some sources of carbohydrate or saturated fats with unsaturated fatty acids, especially polyunsaturated fats, had a beneficial effect on blood sugar levels, as well as insulin resistance and insulin secretion. A 2011 study suggested that consuming 8 grams (g) of Safflower oil daily for 4 months may reduce inflammation while improving blood sugar in some people with type 2 diabetes.

Safflower oil has also been shown to reduce cholesterol and improve heart health. The same 2011 study previously mentioned showed the participants blood cholesterol levels improving after the same 4 month protocol using the Safflower oil. These findings from the American Heart Association’s suggestion that unsaturated fats may lower low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or “bad” cholesterol in the blood.

Anti-Inflammatory Properties

According to a study in Clinical Nutrition, Safflower oil and the unsaturated fatty acids in Safflower oil improved indications of inflammation. It is also known that applying Safflower oil topically to the skin will nourish, soften and moisturize. It has natural occurring Vitamin E which is a strong antioxidant for skin health.
