Neurotransmitters are the body’s chemical messengers; they essentially tell our bodies what to do and when so having these balanced makes for optimal brain function.
A plant-based diet also contains phytochemicals, omega-3 fatty acids, and tryptophan.
Phytochemicals can only come from plants. They help fight against pathogens to keep your brain as healthy as can be.
Omega-3 fatty acids are found in nuts and seeds, and they are needed to function. Also, people whose diets are high in these acids have been found to have lower levels of depression.
Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that creates niacin, which is essential in creating the neurotransmitter serotonin. Serotonin reduces depression and anxiety. This amino acid can be found in foods like leafy greens and pumpkin seeds.
