How to Consume Your Plant-Based Protein While Traveling
A 3 Part Blog Series
One of the hardest things and still is a challenge is maintaining a vegan diet while traveling. At home my kitchen is 100% vegan, but while traveling it can be difficult to keep on track with not having dairy and meat.
Over the past few months I’ve learned some tricks and have some tools to keep my lifestyle and eating habits on track. While I’m not perfect and I do slip up – I make a conscience effort to maintain my vegan diet while traveling.
I will be highlight in a three part series of post on how I handle staying Plant-Based for my protein when I’m on the road around town, when I’m on the road for long hauls, and when I’m off the road at my destination cities
On The Road Locally
Part One
While driving I find the best bet is to bring your own meals. For day trips or when I have appointments around town, I utilize a meal prep bag, right now I’m using the Commuter Bag from Six Pack Fitness which holds about 3 meals which is plenty for me. They have bigger and smaller options available so they will have one to fit your lifestyle and needs.
My containers are filled with a combination of the follow tofu, rice, vegetables and potatoes. No one in his or her right mind enjoys cold rice, back in the olden days you had to suck it up and down it, but I was able to find a Hot Logic Warming Plate that warms up my meal in about 30 minutes. I also find it better then microwaving, as it doesn’t dry out your meal. If you vehicle doesn’t have a 110 plug you may need to purchase an inverter too.
Another staple in my road-warrior kit to keep me plant-based for my protein is of course Nirvana Life’s PR protein. PR is great for travel for two simple reasons, one it taste great and helps with sweet cravings and two it mixes easily with just water, so you don’t get the lumping protein or a mess while on the road.
Plant-Based Protein Bars are a great snack and like the shakes are good when you are in-between meals and have a hunger craving. So decent plant-based and vegan protein bars that I like are No Cow and L’A’RA BAR.
