What’s Wrong with Dairy?!
Most of us grew up on milk – “It does a body good”…but does it? As we come to find out, milk is not so good for your body – in fact, dairy in general is not good for you. Furthermore, those ads that gave us the false impression dairy was good for us, were not done by certified medical professionals! So why did we listen? Well, as we continue to progress, we tend to listen to certified medical professionals.
The infographic below summarizes very nicely what the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine thinks of dairy! After reading this graphic, I started to ponder ways to reduce my cheese intake and my overall dairy intake all together – especially if I am taking a supplement to my diet (i.e. protein shakes).
Why do we consume 29 more pounds of cheese than we did 100 years ago? We are supposed to progress as a society, but as we come to find out most people suffer the availability problem.
The availability problem is simply defined as people will consume things simply because they are available to them. Coca-Cola is the master of this, everywhere you go you will have a chance to purchase their product…and it works (Coke has been around for 100+ years!).
So, with cheese and dairy becoming more “available” we have started consumer more! This same problem pops up in the supplement industry – most protein supplements are Whey / Dairy based.
The most available supplements are mostly whey based and are not actually healthy for you, this seems very counterintuitive to me! Nirvana Life seeks to disrupt this trend by offering the best tasting plant-based protein in the market, with the aim to make switching to a product that uses no dairy easier for all! We want to make this product easily “available”.
Cheese / Dairy Contains:
- 285 calories
- 70% fat
- 640 mg of sodium
- 18 mg of cholesterol
- Increased inflammation
- Increased risk for heart disease
- Offers virtual no nutritional value!
Don’t take it from me, below is a direct quote from the PCRM and other dairy products are the top source of saturated fat in the American diet, contributing to heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease. Studies have also linked dairy to an increased risk of breast, ovarian, and prostate cancers”.
Please choose your supplements wisely!
